50 First Tulle Bolt
Chapter 13 - Walden by Henry David Thoreau
Easy Instructions For a Fluffy Princess Skirt, Perfect for Halloween or Dress Up Games
It is always a great time for Dress Up play, but at Halloween it is especially fun to dress up as someone else for a day. For families on a tight budget this holiday season, making a costume is an enticing option.
A tulle skirt is an easy craft project that can be completed in an afternoon. The costume options are endless with this skirt. It can be a princess or fairy skirt and even a ballet skirt. The end result is a fluffy skirt that is fun to wear and twirl in. The skirt will not only be used for Halloween, but will be used all year long in Dress Up play.
To make the skirt you will need elastic, tulle (1 to 3 different colors) and a needle and thread. Two yards of sparkle ribbon is optional, but adds something special to the skirt.
First measure the waist and cut the elastic to the right size. With the needle and thread, sew the ends together.
Next measure how long you want the skirt to be. When you know the length, double it and this will be the size of tulle to cut. For example, to make a skirt 10 inches long, cut 20 inch pieces of tulle. Cut about 50 pieces of tulle. The tulle should be 6 inches wide. Tulle this width can be purchased on a spool or you can measure and cut tulle purchased from a bolt.
Cut the sparkle ribbon 4 inches shorter than the tulle pieces.
Tie each piece of tulle on the elastic band in a double knot. If you have several colors, alternate the colors. Scrunch the knotted tulle as close together as possible. This gives the skirt a fluffier look. Finally, if you have sparkle ribbon, tie in a double knot over the tulle on the elastic band every 3 to 4 inches.
That is all there is to this easy tulle skirt. The skirt can be worn over a leotard and tights to make the outfit complete. This is a great Halloween costume or can be worn to a princess party.
