Tutu Skirts Make Simple Easy Ballet Costumes For Children's Dance Groups
What can you do when you need to costume a dance performance for a group of young dancers? You may have a dance program which includes many dancers and many dance pieces. Using a tutu over a basic leotard or catsuit can be a quick and effective way to make a great costume at a reasonable cost. You can make a tutu for yourself with easily accessible materials. You do not need to be an expert to make a fantastic tutu skirt that will complete your costume in a striking manner. Use your imagination and get creative. Follow these easy steps and you will make a funky tutu skirt using tulle.
These are the things you will need: - 50 yards Tulle in the color which will complement your costume - ½ elastic - A measuring tape - A pair of scissor. Follow these instructions:
1. Gather all the items mentioned above and place them conveniently in a central location.
2. Pick your measuring tape and measure the waist of the person whose tutu you are to make. To determine the length that the skirt will be, measure down from the waist line.
3. Using your pair of scissors, cut the elastic banding about 4 inches shorter than the measurement of the waist. Join the ends by pinning them together and then try it on. If it is not as tight as you want it, shorten it. Sew the ends of the elastic band together using your sewing machine to form a large circle. Continue to sew over it several times while using varying stitches.
4. Using your measuring tape, take the preferred length measurement, multiply it by two and add 1.5 inches. Using your scissors, cut the tulle into strips of that length and 2 inches wide. If you prefer the look of wider tulle panels, you can try 3 inches or 4 inches wide.
5. Fold a loop at one end of the tulle then fold the tulle in half then place one layer of elastic circle over the end of the looped end of the tulle and then push the ends of the tulle into the looped end, make it to circle over the elastic and pull tight. You will repeat with all pieces of tulle until you get the fullness that you desire. Making a tutu skirt is as simple as that and it does not require much time. Your skirt can complement a costume based on a simple colored leotard or catsuit.
Note, however, that you should buy a lot of tulle as you may need more than you expect to use. Use the left overs for headwear, wrist bands and ankle bands to finish off the look.
